Coffee Mulled Wine
We love our coffee. We also love a good mulled wine. Fortunately there is a way to combine these two loves into a delicious warm treat as the winter comes close. In fact, this warm drink makes us feel good about the cold altogether.
Mulled wine is a staple of the winter season in outdoor markets and on the slopes. In its most basic form it is wine, usually red, that is heated with spices such as cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and an orange. A good recipe can be found here http://wine.about.com/od/holidayswithwine/r/MulledWines.htm.
To make the coffee version of this, we suggest using our Twin Engine Estate Blend to make about ¾ cup of strong coffee or ideally espresso. Pour that into a pan with 1 litre of mulled wine, 3 shots of grappa, and 2 tablespoons of honey if your mulled wine does not already have honey.
Allow the ingredients to infuse for a few minutes (5) and it is ready to serve. This should last a small group, quite a while and is guaranteed to warm everyone up.
While we do not often drink our coffee in cocktails, we find that the rich flavors and creamy texture of our Estate blend pairs fantastically with the ingredients in this recipe. Let us know how yours turned out!
